Thanksgiving @ SDC

For those that have been to SDC on Thanksgiving Day, is it very crowded? We are arriving in Springfield on Sat. to spend the week with my Dad and we want to take the kids to SDC. We thought it might be fun to go on Thanksgiving Day. Is it more crowded than other days, less, or about the same?

TIA

Yes, it is very crowded on Thanksgiving. I have spent the last 4 Thanksgiving Days there. It has been a family tradition to go there for Thanksgiving since our son was deployed over the holidays, and we badly needed a stress break to get through the holidays without him. I don't know what it is like the day before, but the day after is more crowded than Thanksgiving. Something else to remember - they don't open the park until 4:00 on Thanksgiving Day. It is beautiful, though, and if you can stand the crowds and the cold, you will have a good time. Happy Thanksgiving!

we've went the last 3 or 4 Thanksgivings, most of the time we've went to SDC on Friday, one time we went out on Thanksgiving and Friday, another time we went on Friday and Saturday.... I would say of the 3 days Thanksgiving was the least busy.

as mentioned though they open at 4;00 and it seemed like we just got there, made our way in and it was time to leave. we have been watching the extended weather forecast for this year, right now there's a chance of showers on Friday... kicking around the idea of going again on Thanksgiving if it looks like a very high chance of rain, prefer to wait till Friday if possible though.

Thanks for the 4pm opening info! I hadn't realized that. We're driving down from IL for the weekend and were planning to spend Thanksgiving at SDC. We have the two day passes, so will keep an eye on the weather and decide when to use the second day. We had planned to leave here at first light in order to make the most of our Thanksgiving afternoon at SDC, but now won't worry so much since we can't start until 4pm anyway...
